          Highlights for 2008

2008 is the 40th anniversary year for the Retford Art Society and it promises to be a busy and eventful one with two exhibitions a regional art festival and the presentation of a very special evening with prestigious local artist David Curtis in addition to the regular monthly meetings and other painting days and weekends.

Spring Exhibition

The spring exhibition will take place at St Swithuns' church and is scheduled to be earlier than in previous years. The private viewing night will take place on Friday 23rd May with the exhibition being open to the public on the following dates:-

        May 22nd to 24th inclusive, May 29th to 31st inclusive, June 5th to 7th inclusive

The guest artist for the exhibition will be David Newbould.

An Evening With David Curtis

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Society a special evening with David Curtis has been arranged for May 21st at Retford Little theatre. The evening will be a unique opportunity to see one of the UK's favourite artists at work. David will provide a demonstration of portrait painting in oils and will offer an insight into his life and work. Tickets for this special event are available now and are selling fast. The Inaugural Bassetlaw ArtFest

The first ever Bassetlaw ArtFest, "Fabulous Arts in Bassetlaw", will take place on Saturday 26th July. The cross-Bassetlaw initiative will be organised by the newly appointed Strategic Arts Officer, Adele McCarthy and the Society will play an important role in the Retford programme of events. The Society will base its contribution to FAiB at the newly refurbished Bassetlaw Museum on Grove Street and will be presenting a number of exciting and interactive art workshops as well as demonstrations and presentations.

Winter Exhibition

The second of the Societies two annual exhibitions will take place at 
St Swithuns' church. The preview night will take place on Wednesday 1st October with the exhibition being open to the public on the following dates:-

        Oct 2nd to 4th inclusive, Oct 9th to 11th inclusive, Oct 16th to 18th inclusive


The guest artist for the exhibition will be Carol Hodgson.
