The 40th Anniversary Celebration 2008
Friday
24th October 2008 was 40 years to the day since the founding of Retford
Art Society. To celebrate the occasion a dinner dance was arranged at
The Olde Bell Hotel at Barmby Moor and all society members and former
members were invited to join in the celebration. More than 70 people
accepted the invitation and enjoyed an excellent meal and entertainment.
 |
The
venue for the festivities was the Olde Bell's Nielsen Suite which was
suitable bedecked in red befitting a ruby anniversary celebration.
Everybody attending was requested to wear an item of red in their
apparel and as you can see from the pictures the results were very
striking indeed.
Our Honorary Life President and original society member, Val Moore,
raided her memory banks and sprinkled the resulting nuggets with charm
and wit in order to deliver a super speach which encapsulated the highs
and lows of the four decades of the societies existence. Having
listened to some of the wonderful stories that Val recounted it is a
wonder that the society has managed to overcome all of the obstacles
placed in its path by fate and that it heads towards the future with
confidence.
The flowers and table decorations that formed the focal point of each
table were also arranged to reflect the colour scheme of the evening
and looked wonderful. The colour scheme also lent itself nicely to the
consumption of red wine which appeared to be the chosen beverage of the
majority of members and was quaffed in suitably celebratory amount.
Following the meal a live band entertained the members and their guests
until late in the evening and gave several members a chance to test out
some muscles that they hadn't used for a while and possibly forgot they
had.
A
big thank you to all the members who took a great deal of time and
trouble to arrange such a splendid evening which marked the 40th
anniversary.
The pictures on this page were taken by a cross section of the members
on the evening and clearly show that a good time was had by all.
Let's hope the next 40 years are as eventful and successful as the last.
