Bassetlaw Arts Festival - July 26th 2008

The Retford Art Society played a leading role in the inaugural Bassetlaw Arts Festival which took place at a variety of venues across the district on Saturday July 26th. The Art Society hosted a number free of workshops and informal drop-in art sessions in order to give the people of the town and surrounding area a chance to discover their hidden artistic talents. The following pictures feature both RAS members and non-members at work during the Arts Festival activities at Grove Street Methodist Church and across the road at the refurbished Museum. A great day was had by all who attended!!

Non-member at work Dave Woolass class
David Woolass presented a four hour workshop in which people were given the chance to experiment with some simple techniques of watercolour painting and produce a picture to take home. All materials were provided and David assisted the class throughout the session with advice and encouragement. Meanwhile, across Grove Street in the newly refurbished Museum, RAS member Richard Rogers gave a fully hands-on experience for budding potters. The class was a great hit with Retford's younger artists and everyone went home happy and fairly clean! Each pupil made a pot which Richard later fired. Richard Rogers Pottery Class

Throughout the day Retford Art Society members demonstrated a number of different skills and techniques with a lif-drawing session and a separate still life session. The day was a rare chance for many of the members to meet up, share news and practice their drawing and painting skills. The following pictures show our members at work......
