The 2009 Autumn Exhibition

With a break from tradition this year the Retford Art Society has dispensed with a professional guest artist and has instead invited students at Retrofd's Post 16 Centre to submit examples of their work for display. 13 students responded to the challenge at the results are a wonderfully eclectic mix of styles and media. bigger than ever with 120 members pictures on display. With record levels of membership and with seven months to go to the next exhibition it looks like every available spot of hanging space will be needed come the next exhibition in May 2010. Post 16 Student

The exhibition was kindly opened by Chris Draper who is the head of art at Retford's Elizabethan High School. Chris was impressed with the standard of work on display from both her own students and the society membership. It is hoped that the partnership between the art society and the sixth form Post 16 centre is one that will continue into the future and that all will benefit from the experience.

Sales of pictures, both framed and unframed, were again impressively high this year despite the worst recession for a generation (thanks Gordon) as once again the society continues to supply original art to the people of Retford and the surrounding area.

The next scheduled exhibition will be in May 2010.
