The 40th Annual Exhibition 2008

St Swithun's Church once again provided the stunning backdrop to the Retford Art Society Annual Exhibition which took place in October. This was the 40th Annual Exhibition staged by the society and was opened in this celebration year by Retford's Lady Mayor Wendy Quigley. For the second time this year the exhibition featured more than one hundred pictures and art works created by members old and new plus a superb contribution from guest artist Carol Hodgson.

Centre: Lady Mayor Wendy Quigley opened the exhibition and enjoyed the pictures immensely. Right: Invited guests attended the special preview evening and enjoyed a leisurely browse and a glass of wine.

This years exhibition was marred by the indisposition of our inspirational Chairman, Warren Cookson. Warren suffered a nasty injury falling from a ladder and was unable to bring his energy and enthusiasm to the task of setting up the exhibition display and lights this year. The rest of the team muddled through and all our best wishes for a speedy recovery go with him.

The guest artist for this years exhibition was Carol Hodgson who contributed several fabulous examples of her work. Carol's work is primarily about colour and texture as she aims to capture the essence of the subject with a light and lively use of the pastel. Click here to visit Carol's website.

Sales of pictures, both framed and unframed, were again impressively high this year despite the much reported credit crunch as once again the society continues to supply original art to the people of Retford and the surrounding area.

The next scheduled exhibition will be in May 2009.
