The Summer
Exhibition 2009
The
Retford Art
Society Summer Exhibition took place at St Swithuns Church in
Retford
on three successive weekends in June 2009. The exhibition
featured
a record number of almost 150 exhibits including lots of
work created by the many new members that the society had
attracted over the previous few months.

| With no guest artist
featured at this year's summer exhibition there was more display space
for the members to exhibit and they excelled themselves this year by
utilising
every available inch of that space. New display boards were created by
DIY expert David Brown but the old ones that they were built to replace
still had to be rooted out and used as the pictures threatened to spill
out of the church doors! Once again a myriad
of styles and mediums were
there to be enjoyed. |

Invited
guests enjoy the exhibits at the specially arranged preview evening. |
Outgoing
Treasurer and long standing society stalwart Joan Vickers opened the
exhibition with a rousing speech. Sales
of pictures, both framed and unframed, increased impressively
again this year
despite the much reported credit crunch as the society continues to
supply original art to the people of Retford and the surrounding area.

The standard of
work on show was once again very high and this year the Art Society is
to produce a calendar for 2010 featuring thirteen specially selected
images from the summer exhibition. Details of this will be announced on
the website.
Thank you to all the members who helped with the summer exhibition from
display stand construction to stewarding and all the other tasks that
help to make it such a great success.

| This
year's exhibition featured more abstract work than on previous
occasions. Talented member Terry Stephens exhibited three such pictures. |
