The Summer Exhibition 2008
The
Retford Art
Society Summer Exhibition took place at St Swithuns Church in Retford
on three successive weekends in May and June 2008. The exhibition
featured
more than one hundred pictures and art works created by members
old and new. The exhibition also included an excellent and eclectic
contribution from guest artist David Newbould.
The
church once again proved to be a fantastic venue and was, thankfully,
just large enough to accommodate the wealth of exhibits that managed to
pass the scrutiny of the selection comittee.
As
on previous occasions work attributed to the majority of the societies
membership was on display and a wide array of styles and mediums were
to be enjoyed. |

Invited guests enjoy the exhibits at the specially arranged preview evening. |
Sales
of pictures, both framed and unframed, increased impressively this year
despite the much reported credit crunch as the society continues to
supply original art to the people of Retford and the surrounding area.

The
general consensus of opinion is that the standard of work on display
was even better than previous exhibitions and the wonderful comments
entered into the visitors book by people visiting the exhibition did
much to reinforce this view.
Thank you to all the members who helped with the summer exhibition from
display stand construction to stewarding and all the other tasks that
helped to make it such a success.
