General Information The society was formed in 1968 by a group of people who wanted to get together to paint. The object of the society is to 'promote fellowship' between members and to develop, encourage and provide facilities for the pursuance of Art in any form, in any medium or style, by demonstrations discussions and practical occasions as stated in the constitution of the society. To further these objectives the Society organises the following set of activities :-Monthly Meetings Monthly meetings are held on the last Thursday of every month except December and the January meeting is always the A.G.M. The meetings may be demonstrations of art techniques in any and various media by visiting artists. Other Activities We hold informal painting sessions every Tuesday from 7:00pm until 9:00pm and every Friday from 2:00pm until 4:00pm. Members can practice their own work in their own choice of medium and at their own pace. There is always at least one member who will bring a still life subject on these occasions such as flowers, fruit etc. Any member attending may use these objects as subjects for their own work if they so desire. Several members meet on Wednesday's at 7:00pm until 9:00pm for life drawing. For the life drawing meeting there is a charge of £3 for members and £4 for non-members We organise visits to local sites of interest for outdoor painting workshops. Sometimes during the late spring or summer we organise a residential painting weekend at a suitable venue. Accommodation is arranged by the Society, but members pay their own expenses. Recent locations have included the Yorkshire coast and Derbyshire. The Society holds two exhibitions every year. Every member is entitled to show at least one exhibit and there is usually a limit of three framed paintings per member. Unframed paintings, cards and craft items can also be displayed. We have videos which can be hired for a small weekly fee and art books and magazines that may be borrowed. Fees and Subscriptions The Society is self-financing. Members pay an annual subscription of £20, due in January each year. If any new member wishes to join during the last three months of the year, the £20 subscription they pay carries them through the following year. We ask a fee of £1 from members each time they attend Tuesday and Friday sessions. For submission of work for exhibitions, we charge a fee of £1 per framed picture, 50p for each unframed picture and 10p per card. There is a commision fee of 10% payable to the Society on the price of each item sold during the exhibitions. Constitution The Society operates under an organising commitee, consisting of Chairman, Vice-chairman, treasurer, secretary and nine commitee members. Members attending the AGM elect the officers and commitee. The four officers can be elected at any time, commitee members retire by rote every two years but are immediately eligible for re-election. At present the Society has over 60 members. |
