The Home of The Society
After thifty seven years of it existence, and having had a number of
different venues in town, the Retford Art Society made Ghyll Hall the
centre of its artistic activity early in 2005. The old barn building
was previously utilised as a dance studio and makes an ideal base for
many of the societies afternoon and evening sessions.
|
Affectionately
known by the members of the society as "The Studio" Ghyll Hall provides
an excellent site for informal gatherings of members. These artistic
sessions take place on Tuesday evenings and Friday afternoons
throughout the year and are both popular and well attended. The
sessions provide the members with an ideal opportunity to practice
their art and swap hints and techniques in a friendly and sociable
setting.

The
serious side to the activities performed in Ghyll Hall take place on
Wednesday evenings when members wishing to hone and perfect their
drawing skills attend a regular life drawing class. The sessions are
two hours in duration and a charge of £3 is levied.

Many members place a high value on the ability of the life drawing evenings to improve their drawing skills.
In addition to providing a base for artistic activity Ghyll Hall also
acts as a repository for a growing library of books, magazines and
videos covering a wide variety of artistic pursuits which may be
borrowed by members of the society at any time.
Ghyll Hall is an inspirational place in which to create and hopefully
the Retford Art Society will continue to flourish within its walls. |
